Historical Briefing
1981 to PRESENT
THE MISSION..
Christian prayer partners from the United States and other countries are joining
in a spirit of PRAYER and CONCERN toward those who LAY THEIR LIFE ON THE LINE
day and night in an effort to keep communities safer and more peaceful.
The prayer partners' goal is to throw a PRAYER BLANKET over the courageous men
and women who serve as police, deputies, state troopers, investigators, firefighters,
ambulance and emergency medical, corrections officer., security, negotiators,
911 dispatchers...who answer OUR cry for help!
THE TULSA STORY...
The Peace Officer Prayer Partner program began in Tulsa,Oklahoma in 1981 by
Pastor/Chaplain Danny Lynchard, who has served for over 15 years as chaplain
to the Tulsa Police, Fire Department, and as a short-term prison chaplain.
Pastor Danny observed with compassion the STRESSES that Police Officers endured
on a day to day basis -- affecting every aspect of their lives. His prayer appeal to
the citizens of this Nation is Simply stated. Law Enforcement Officers and Emergency
Service Personnel are appointed to serve their communities 24 hours a day. They are
dedicated in upholding the law to protect lives and property of the citizens in their
assigned communities.
This brings RISK to their LIVES DAILY - and THEY DO THIS FOR US!!!
Chaplain Lynchard explained that these officers and responders needed
PRAYER SUPPORT! Thus, the Peace Officer Prayer Partner program was born.
It spread From Tulsa to Denver,Colorado; to Little Rock, Arkansas and to
over 100 cities - even to Scotland Yard.
National Geographic magazine
included the program in a feature story
on the Tulsa community.
THE VISION EXPANDED...
In 1996, a group of concerned Kansas citizens (several with law enforcement
background)responded to Chaplain Danny's vision. By the year 2000, a
large network of prayer partners were enlisted to pray over their
law enforcement, fire, & medical emergency responders in many, many
States, as well as in other countries. The name was changed to Peace Officer
and First Responder Prayer Partners International [short name POPP].
Pastors with Chaplain hearts have stepped forward to offer comfort, a listening
ear, and a true heart of concern. Many prayer warriors, POPP & others, are going
on-line to offer "PRAYER and CARE" to all first responders.
