PETALS FOR A SOLDIER

Little girls with hearts so true
For soldiers who were brave
Held up their flags toward the blue
Threw petals on the grave

Soldier dear we do thank you
We see the price you pay
Honor’s due in our great land
For peace that you have gave

And the bugle blew
And the petals flew
From their small and loving hands

Little boys dressed up to serve
Set flags that brightly wave
A pledge they made to honor you
Who rest within the grave

Soldier dear we do thank you
We see the price you pay
Honor’s due in our great land
For peace that you have gave

And the bugle blew
And the petals flew
From their small and loving hands

Through children’s eyes
Their hearts do see
Soldiers who still serve
We toss our petals in thanks to you
For our land you still preserve

And the bugle blew And the petals flew
From their small and loving hands

In my hometown, rural USA, it was a tradition for the children to help honor the fallen soldiers on Veteran's Day.

My grandmother was one lady who never forgot the sacrifices laid down by the soldiers as she had three sons who served in WWII.

It was moving to carry a basket of petals while the boy scouts respectively
placed the small American flags beside the markers of those who had served in the wars.

Recently, I visited my hometown and observed the touching sight of the boy scouts
placing the flags at the graves of fallen soldiers. As memories came flooding into
my mind so did the poem "Petals for a Soldier."

Sybil Chialiva, a very special and gifted Graphic Artist, sent me the picture called
"Bring Him Home To Me, Lord" and it blessed this page and its message.

Our people are so blessed by the men and women who shield us and lay down
their lives to preserve peace and freedom.

We are forever grateful those still serving and pray to the Lord for their safe
return home, which enjoys freedom because of their willing hearts to serve.
