Buttercups

Buttercups with bees inside,
Shiny leaves where poisons hide,
Rainbows with no pot of gold,
Apples filled inside with mold,
Books of wisdom not so wise,
Stars that glow in painted skies,
Smiles that secret hatred hide,
Frowns that show not what’s inside,
Sorrow that is seldom shown,
Hurt that never will be known.

-- Linda Berdan

Buttercups with gold inside,
Shiny leaves where dewdrops hide,
Thorns that hold the rose upright,
Storms that water plants at night,
Velvet skies with stars aglow,
A pot of gold on each rainbow,
Apples filled inside with honey,
Books both serious and funny,
Words that reach across the miles,
Frowns that quickly lead to smiles.
Smiles that turn away the tears,
Friendships that will last for years.
