Edinburgh Parish Records

A record of this marriage is in the register of Edinburgh parish (Edinburgh Marriages, Scottish Record Soc. Pub. 27, 97):

• 7th May 1758 James Brydone, shoemaker and Elspet Chalmers, daughter of the deceased James Chalmers, farmer in the parish of Descourd (Deskford), now both in the College Kirk parish.

Subsequently, in the register of Canongate parish in Edinburgh we find the births of two of their children:

• James Bryden and Elspeth Chalmers had a daughter: Agnes born 22^nd baptised 25:11:1759.
• James Breaden, shoemaker in Canongate and Elspeth Chalmers his spouse, had a son born 21^st November 1767, baptised 29^th said month, named William.

I have not found a birth record for the older son James. Also the interval between birth dates would suggest that they had at least one other child.
