Carl Schreiber
According to family tradition, the original form of the name was von Schreiber.

Carl Schreiber was born in Naumburg, Germany, and his wife Henrietta was born in Leipzig. Leipzig is a city in east central Germany, politically independent until 1866 when it became part of Prussia. Naumburg is about 25 miles southwest of Leipzig. They immigrated to the U. S. from the north German seaport of Bremen aboard the Johannes, arriving in Baltimore on 5 May 1854. Carl was a butcher.

In the 1880 Census, Henrietta states that both of her parents were also born in Leipzig.

In the 1900 Census, Henrietta states that she is the mother of 6 children, all living.
Carl and Henrietta are buried in Western Cemetery, Lot L24, Baltimore, along with their son Charles.
It wouldn't be unusual for Carl to have had relatives already living in Baltimore when he immigrated. There are two other Schreiber families in Baltimore that may possibly be related. In the 1880 Census, Frederick Schreiber (harnessmaker), age 27 and his mother Catherine age 57 are living nearby at 213 N. Dallas St. There is also a Schreiber family living at 135 N. Bond St: Josephine (tailoress) in the 1860 Census, 422(788)/14, Jacob (tailor) and Dena (1816 - ) in the 1860 Census 422(188)/14, 1870 Census 223(401)/1 and 1880 Census p 192, and Philip (carpenter) in 1885.
