Elisabeth was the daughter of Johann George Sprenger, linenweaver, and Elisabeth Henkel of Erksdorf. The Sprengers belonged to the Reformed Church, whose records are located at nearby Rauschenberg but have not yet been searched. Their children:

Johannes Henkel and Elisabeth Sprenger immigrated in 1865 aboard the bark Gutenberg from Bremen, along with their four surviving children and several in-laws. Here is an excerpt from the Gutenberg's passenger list:

During 1870-1890, John and Elizabeth lived at 109 N. Bethel Street (renumbered in 1888 to 402 N. Bethel.) Their graves have not been located.
