About Winning Events

Winning Events is really a one man show. I'm Curtis Martell and W.E. is my "company" that promotes bicycle races in and around Lawrence Kansas. It's not so much a company as it is my vehicle for promoting bike racing.

I've been involved in USCF bicycle racing since 1982 when I entered my first race in Leroy Illinois. I crashed on the start line when I ran into a team mate and then got dropped. I also participated in the first mountain bike race in Illinois around 1986 or 1987.

I am currently a Cat 4 rider with Freestate Racing, Director of the FSR Development Team, a Category C USCF Official, National NORBA Official, and Treasurer of the Kansas Cycling Association.

Putting on a bike race takes a lot of help and I get a lot of support from a number of volunteers including my wife Juile, Margretta DeVries, Kevin Macomas, Bill Anderson, Eric Struckhoff, Roger Harrison, the GP Velotek Junior Team, and many others. I'm also very thankful for the support I've gotten over the years from local Sponsors Sunflower Outdoor and Bike Shop and Cycleworks.

I've been involed in organizing so many bike races I've lost count. Some of the events I've been involed with in Kansas are the Clinton Lake Challenge NORBA, Kansas Mountain Bike Championship Series, Thursday Night Race Series, The Pure Cross Series, Sunflower State Games, Octoginta Time Trial, and the Sunflower Cyclocross.
