See the new State Championships section of the KCA web site. What is the KCA Surcharge?January 21, 2007 You may have seen the words "Entry fee includes $1 KCA Surcharge" on race announcements for Kansas races. The KCA surcharge is a exactly that -- a surcharge collected by the race promoters from the riders and paid to the KCA. USCF rules allow Local Associations to collect a surcharge from racers. This surcharge is an important source of funding for the association and the KCA uses the money collected to fund it's general operations. The KCA Registration and Results system, USCF Officials Clinics and the various Kansas State Championships are all examples of KCA supported activities. For a complete accounting of the KCA operations look at the Financial Reports on About KCA section of this web site. USCF Rule Changes for 2007January 15, 2007 All USCF License holders should have received an email from USA Cycling in regard to rule changes for this season. Take a closer look at the changes with comments from USA Cycling Staff. Two rule changes will have the most impact on local riders. One is new Junior Gear Restrictions. Juniors must now ride their junior gear limit in all races even when competing in races with older juniors and seniors. The second change clarifies the rule for radio usage during races. It has been clarified to eliminate the possibility of riders wearing audio playback devices (Walkmans, MP3 players, etc…) during a race. Cyclo-cross Categories Now In UseOctober 11, 2006 USCF members may have noticed there is now a Cyclo-cross category listed on your license. The USCF created the new category to accomodate the growth in this discipline. Most riders cyclo-cross category should have been made the same as their road category at the beginning of 2006. Cyclo-cross categories are 1,2,3 and 4. Riders riding on a one-day license will be category 4. In the past riders self-selected what category they would race at a given race. Now riders can only race in events for wich they are eligible. For example a rider with a cyclocross category of 4 cannot enter a Cat 1/2/3 race but he could enter a Cat 4 race, Cat 3/4 race, or a 1/2/3/4 race. Riders interested in upgrading their cyclo-cross categories can do so in the same manner as upgrading road categories. Check out the USCF Categorization Guidlines for more information. Board of Directors Meeting July 22August 9, 2006 Minutes from the July Board of Directors Meeting are now . Minutes from Board of Directors and 2005 Annual MeetingsMarch 29, 2006 Minutes from the all the KCA meetings have been posted including from the 2005 Annual Meeting and recent Board of directors meetings. | More | President’s Message - State of the AssociationOctober 12, 2005 I would first like to thank the members of the Kansas Cycling Association for your support and efforts this past year. Each rider, promoter, team captain, official, scorer, volunteer, board member, coach, sponsor and spectator has played an important part of the experience of cycling in Kansas. 2005 has had it share of problems, small and large, but the general direction for cycling in Kansas continues to move up. Overall the KCA and cycling in Kansas has had a very good year. | More | Cyclocross - What is it and How do I do it?October 12, 2005 Today Cyclocross is much more than an off-season training technique, it's a full-blown UCI World Cup sport with professional riders and World Championships, has it's own USCF National Championships, and a growing grassroots racing movement. Races take place typically in the autumn and winter, and consists of many laps of a short (2–3 km) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills, and obstacles requiring the rider to dismount, jump the barrier and remount. The sport began in the 1940s and the first world championship was held in Paris in 1950. Despite the professional aspect, Cyclocross is still a good way for amateur road racers to use the winter months maintaining cardiovascular fitness, building power and improving bike handling skills. The USAC web site has a good cyclocross primer covering the Basics, Equipment, Technique, Training, Racing and the Season. Cyclocrossworld.com has several good technical articles and is a good resource for specialized cyclocross frames and parts. There are also specific USCF rules for Cyclocross races. Locally the racing scene is strong and growing with at least a dozen races in Kansas and the Kansas City area culminating with the a UCI Cyclocross event on December 3 and the Kansas State Cyclocross Championships on December 4. For the second year there is also a 6 race regional series, The Mid-Americal Cross Cup. Big time cyclocross will return to Kansas City when USCF Cyclocross Nationals will be held in Kansas City in 2006 and 2007. 2005 KCA Annual Meeting and DinnerOctober 7, 2005 The Kansas Cycling Association Annual Meeting and Dinner has been scheduled for November 20, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. At the Holcom Recreation Center (map) in Lawrence. The agenda for the meeting will include Board of Directors elections, Presentation of trophies to the Kansas Omnium winners, and inductions into the newly formed Kansas Cycling Hall of Fame. This years meeting will also feature a pot-luck dinner. The KCA will provide BBQ beef, pork and turkey from Vermont Street BBQ and attendees are being asked to bring their favorite side dish. Please RSVP to Curtis Martell with the number of people planning to attend. 2005 Kansas Omnium Final Results7/17/05 The final results have been tabulated and the winners of the 2005 Kansas Omnium have been determined. Check the Omnium Page for complete results. This year the Omnium winners will receive a personalized plaque that recognizes their achievement. The KCA uses the “half-point” system to determine qualifying points for upgrading. Racers receive 50% of the normal upgrade points for races that meet field size or race duration requirements but not both. Where neither criterion is met, no points are accrued. A list of the criteria is available on the USA Cycling website. Throughout 2004, upgrade points will be posted on the KCA website and riders accumulating the required minimum points for upgrading will be cooperatively notified and encouraged to consider upgrading. Riders triggering the “automatic” point thresholds will be upgraded according to USCF categorization guidelines. | More |
