SESSION FIVE LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

1. "Do we really have to learn this?" Identify two specific instances of inadequate motivation to learn. These can be from your experiences either as a teacher or a student. Describe each situation in enough detail that you can draw on the theoretical perspectives presented in this unit to (1) diagnose the likely causes of the motivational deficit and (2) prescribe some possible strategies for enhancing motivation for that audience/setting. Post your response on the class bulletin board for Session Five.

2. Evaluate the usefulness of Gagne's theory in an educational setting of interest to you. Be sure to refer to specific components of the theory, such as the need to construct a learning hierarchy to plan a unit of instruction. Consider both the aspects of the theory that you might find useful, as well as those that might be problematic. Post your response on the class bulletin board for Session Five.
