State Board of Education Candidates

and Their Position on the Science Standards

The state Board of Education adopted state science standards last summer that removed almost all references to the evolution of life, the geological history of the earth, and the history of the universe. The Board also changed the definition of science so that supernatural causes could be considered in scientific explanations, and weakened the definition of theory so as confuse it with the popular meaning of hypothesis or even speculative guess. And last, the Board deleted several references to environmental issues such as global warming and the effects of over-population.
