The
LJLC is the educational arm of the LJCC. Under its auspices come
most LJCC activities that focus on learning, except for our Religious
School. LJLC programs are open to the entire Lawrence Jewish Community.
The LJLC offers adult education, family education, a preschool playgroup, and interfaith activities.
Adult Education
Adult
education focuses on what Judaism has to say about current issues
and events, our religious texts, and the history of our culture
and literature. We have guest speakers and lively discussions. The
LJCC cosponsors lectures and events with other groups including KU's Jewish Studies program,
KU Hillel, Jewish Community Women, Temple Beth Sholom in Topeka, and other Lawrence and Kansas City organizations.
Family Education
No
education for a child is as powerful as the opportunity to learn
alongside his or her parents. Around the country, many congregations
are offering more family education, since the family can talk
about important religious issues together and grow religiously
as a unit. The LJLC will offer several opportunities for families
to study together. These will be fun, interactive learning times
for everyone. Family Education is made possible with a grant through the Flo Harris Foundation.
Cooperative Preschool Playgroup
Our mission is to develop a family oriented cooperative preschool playgroup to support families in crafting a positive
Jewish identity for their children and to foster connections among Jewish families in the Lawrence area.
The Playgroup is for Jewish and interfaith families with children ages birth to five. You do not have
to be a member of the Congregation to join. The Jewish Community Women gave a grant to support the development of the playgroup.
Interfaith Activities
In
our diverse LJCC community, we have many interfaith families or
individuals considering conversion (or recently converted). We
offer specific programming to address the needs and issues many
interfaith families or individuals joining Judaism face.
