Marziah Karch
was born in 1971 in a small town in Kansas. She demonstrated a talent
for painting before she learned how to speak, much to the irritation
of her parents. Her parents did come to love her artwork later,
after she learned not to paint on the walls.
After she graduated
high school, she became a German foreign exchange student. Pieces
of Berlin Wall in hand, she returned to Kansas and completed her
Bachelor's in Printmaking at the University of Kansas in 1995. She
has lived in Lawrence, Kansas ever since.
Marziah began
exploring the use of computers in artwork during her undergraduate
work in college. She continues to use both traditional and digital
media in her work, including digital reproduction techniques.
As a printmaking
major, she learned to value fine papers and quality, archival prints.
She tries to bring those same values into the digital arena, by
using longer lasting inks and higher quality papers.
Marziah's printed
work has appeared in several role-playing games, including games
by Event Horizon Productions, Game Designer's Workshop, Rune's
Law, and Wyrd Images. She has also acted as art director for
various
projects. Her artwork was also used for the cover and interior
of Yard Dog Press' More Stories that Won't Make Your Parents
Hurl.
Marziah's artwork
has also been featured in several online galleries and magazines,
including Speculative
Vision , artFUTURE
, and Quantum
Muse
Marziah's awards
include Best Science Fiction at Mage Con North IV, Best of Show
at Mage Con North V, and Best Use of Color at Gateway 2.
Marziah married
Harold Agnew in 1994 and has a daughter, Parvaneh, 3, and a baby
son Kiyan, born in December of 2004.
Among her
hobbies,( which she has less and less time for with mothering
duties), she enjoys going to various science fiction conventions,
making gourmet
iguana food, building computers from spare parts, reading voraciously,
collecting DVDs, and taking online college classes.
