Chlorophyllum molybdites
In the mid sixties Agaricus campestris was the common urban mushroom in Lawrence.  I found and ate them in great quantities.  When I returned to Lawrence in the late seventies I found them for a few years, then they almost disappeared.  Now the most common urban mushroom is certainly the somewhat poisonous Chlorophyllum molybdites.
This mushroom is most easily identified by its green spore print.  It is frequently found growing in fairy rings, and immature specimens are reminiscent of golf balls atop their tees.  When summer rains are bountiful, it is possible to see this mushroom growing in yards in all parts of the city.
