This is our child... err.. cat, Nutmeg. We adopted her from the local humane society in 1992. She is antisocial and hides whenever we have company.
This is Miami. She is no longer with us as she died very suddenly the middle of May, 2000. I happened to come home from work to meet the cable guy. I was in the living room watching her at the window when she fell out of the window and just laid limp on the floor. I rushed her to the vet up the street and he told me what I already knew, that she was gone. The vet told us she died from a heartworm. Lisa and I didn't even know that cats could get heartworms until this happened as Miami showed no symptoms. She was only 3 years old at the time she died. We adopted her from the humane society as well and the vet felt that she was infected with the heartworm before we got her. This is still a difficult thing for Lisa and I to deal with. Miami was a wonderful kitty and we miss her terribly. I tell myself that I'm glad I was here when she died so she didn't die alone. Lisa and I had her cremated and we have her ashes. At some point we'll buy an urn for them and get them out of the closet they're in. For now it's less painful for us if they stay where they are. Lisa and I have looked at getting a Ragdoll kitten but with Nutmeg being the independent type around other cats we probably won't. |
