SILENT TREATMENT

If I did something wrong, I swear I don’t know when
But here we go, I get that silent treatment again
It doesn’t ever last for long or happen very much
But when it happens you don’t speak or smile, and we don’t touch

This silent treatment hurts; it’s so unkind
You don’t need to explode, just speak your mind
Just get it off your chest and have your say
So we don’t have this tension ruin our day

When you get all upset, it’s you it hurts the most
You never let it out, and so it grows and grows
I try to read your thoughts, which I can’t seem to do
You build a wall around yourself I can’t get through

You know I didn’t mean to hurt you anyway
And sometimes I don’t mean to use the words I say
I’d never dream of hurting you the way some did before
If I did, I’ll apologize a thousand times or more

You keep it to yourself, and won’t try to explain
So no one has a chance to try to ease your pain
It never gets resolved that way, it just keeps getting worse
And no one really knows what’s on your mind or on your nerves
